Opening

The hotel was established in 1897 by the South-German gastronome Friedrich Haerlin and was originally called the Vier Jahreszeiten. He purchased the narrow house with twelve rooms and a restaurant on 24 February 1897, which was his 40th birthday, paying 420.100 Marks.

Renovation

The year 2014 marked the completion of largest renovation project in the rich history of Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. After years of refurbishment and restoration the hotel gleams in new splendor. From the roof to the basement, the entire hotel has been renovated; new rooms and suites, new baths, five modernized banqueting rooms, a new business center, and a new conference foyer. Over 250 antiques were restored, the Flemish tapestries – a hallmark of the hotel – have been hand-cleaned and sealed, while elegant new fabrics bring the restaurants to light. Many ask what has changed. “That is the highest compliment,” says General Manager Ingo C. Peters, “for that is exactly what we wanted to achieve. It is our vision to bring tradition and history together with contemporary and international lifestyle trends into a harmonious whole. We are proud of our history. Our heritage is our greatest capital, something that can never be reproduced.”

Rooms & Suites

In the first months of 2015 the full renovation of all five floors including a total of 156 guest rooms and suites at Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten as well as the spa and fitness facilities and the new roof top terrace will be successfully completed. The traditional grand hotel presents itself in an entirely new style which draws from classic fabrics and international design ideas. The interior design concept is refined: High-class fabrics are effectually presented in six different color schemes which are fresh and unconventional yet classy and comfortable. Bright, creamy tones are pleasantly contrasted by accentuating highlight nuances in gold, grey, green, blue, red and purple. No living unit is like another one, no floor follows the same apportionment. The interior is inspiring; it is thought through down to the smallest detail in decoration and lighting.

The room amenities playfully meet contemporary requirements without losing clarity. All rooms and suites feature an iPod docking station, a tablet PC, high-definition flat screens, digital TV channel menu (more than 130 national and international channels) as well as DVD player. The daily newspaper of choice, a Nespresso coffee maker and wireless high-speed internet access are offered as complimentary services.

The fifth floor – the so-called Bel Etage - is a true gem. All the rooms facing the Alster have spacious balconies which invite the guest to relax in front of the breath-taking view of the picturesque inner Alster.
